Daniel Carlson + Alexis Rose
January 10 – February 12, 2015
Reception: Saturday, January 10, 7pm – 10pm

Art and horticulture merge in an unusual and perhaps unprecedented experience this January, when the Good Luck Gallery will be transformed into a conservatory-type habitat, with a curated selection of plants – containing detailed descriptions – arranged in pots around the floor and festooned upon the walls, creating a new edible aesthetic.

This seemingly incongruous combination is the work of Daniel Carlson, a flower farmer and orchardist, and Alexis Rose, an artist and designer, both of whom are self-taught. These two young people envision a future with less disparity between the indoors and outdoors, in which medicine, fiber and food are all grown naturally, not manufactured. They are committed to integrating organic environments and high-concept spatial experiences with the ultimate goal of sustainability. As they say, “We need to digest our environment like a plant digests the sun.”

This nutritious and visually compelling site, in which farming will be positioned as art, is the first collaboration and gallery exhibit for Carlson and Rose. Seeds and potted plants will be on sale and a tea service – made from herbs grown in the gallery – will be provided during the opening reception and subsequent set hours.
